Founded in 1967 in Kansas City, Missouri, by Bobby Sims, Zip Pneumatics, Inc. began its journey as a distributor for Zip Systems, a leading manufacturer of pneumatic tube systems. In the years that followed, Mr. Sims expanded his role, becoming a stockholder and eventually serving as president of Zip Systems. During this period, a network of approximately twenty distributors across the United States provided comprehensive installation, upgrade, and service solutions to Zip Systems' clientele.

In the early 1990s, following the acquisition of Zip Systems by a new owner, Mr. Sims made the strategic decision to reposition Zip Pneumatics as an independent manufacturer. This pivotal transition enabled the company to design, install, and service its own line of pneumatic tube systems, addressing a wide spectrum of client needs. By overseeing every aspect of the process—from manufacturing to installation and ongoing support—Zip Pneumatics gained the ability to offer tailored solutions, ensuring that each system precisely met the unique requirements of its clients’ facilities. The 1980s marked the entry of Mr. Sims’ sons, Jeff and Dave, into the family business, where they honed their expertise in the installation and servicing of pneumatic tube systems. By the 1990s, their proficiency enabled Dave to take on the role of project foreman, while Jeff assumed a leadership position in operations management at Zip Pneumatics. Subsequently, Jeff, alongside the youngest son, Darryl, contributed significantly to the design and engineering of the company’s systems, many of which remain integral to Zip Pneumatics’ offerings today. Over time, Jeff ascended to the role of president and full-time manager, with Bobby Sims continuing as CEO and a strategic consultant. Following Jeff’s retirement in 2015, Darryl assumed responsibility for daily operations, while Dave continued to oversee service and installation. Together, Dave and Darryl uphold Zip Pneumatics’ legacy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective pneumatic tube systems to facilities nationwide, ranging from straightforward point-to-point solutions to sophisticated computer-controlled automatic systems.
